The Paleo diet is pretty popular nowadays especially as more and more people are attempting to lose weight. Also known as the Paleolithic diet or the Caveman diet, this particular weight loss regimen is closely patterned with the diet of people during the Stone Age. Now, this might seem complicated for some people, but the truth is that the Caveman diet is incredibly easy to follow. In fact, some restaurants are built centering on this concept while various cookbooks are published specifically for followers of this regimen.
The Paleo diet Concept
As mentioned, this food regimen is patterned on cavemen diet. This means that followers will only eat the items that were once eaten by prehistoric men. The argument is that the body is only meant to eat specific food types, and by swaying from this idea, the human body starts to develop unhealthy symptoms.
What Cavemen Eat
So what exactly are included in the Caveman diet? The topmost things they devour are lean meat – their protein intake is possibly the highest in all food types. Hence, followers of this regimen focus mostly on eating meat from pork, beef, fish, shellfish and various other item that were “hunted” and eaten during prehistoric time.
All kinds of oil are also avoided in this diet. As much as possible, followers of the Paleo prefer food that is prepared without artificial flavor. Only natural enhancer like thyme, basil and other spices are accepted. Fruit and vegetable intake are also encouraged during the Paleo regimen while dairy and grains are kept to a minimum. Fat is also accepted although they need to be of the healthy kind – usually those polyunsaturated or omega 3 fatty acids.
Sweeteners or even salt are usually avoided, as they are late developments and considered unnatural. Sweets usually come in the form of fruits and honey which occur seldom in the diet. Recent additions like bread, butter or chocolate are banned or kept to a minimum, depending on the severity of the Paleo regimen an individual is following.
Does the Paleo System Work?
The fact that the Paleo system is still being used today should be a testament to how effective it is. By breaking down an individual’s intake to the most basic, Paleo followers manage to remove the complicated carbohydrates that litter modern food and cause weight gain. Hence, it only makes sense that they will start to lose weight – even with very few exercise sessions. In fact, workouts for Paleo followers are often limited to a short but powerful burst that will quickly burn off energy without prolonging the agony.
All in all, the Paleo diet, is an incredibly effective method of losing weight. However, one of the top problems of people using Paleo is the lack of flavor and variety in their food. As mentioned, there are currently books that provide tips and tricks for Paleo practitioners to cook flavorful dishes without straying from the Paleo concept. Hence, individuals who want to try out this weight loss regimen have nothing to be afraid of.
