What Are the Most Common Nutrition Supplements?

You know that an industry has come into its own when you see news outlets, magazines, and even government agencies focusing inordinate amount of attention on the products and services that industry offers. Nutrition supplements certainly fit the bill, as discussions and examinations of their efficacy are now commonplace in almost every area of society. Millions of Americans and others around the world now use nutrition supplements of one form or another and the growth of these nutritional aids is only expected to increase in the years ahead. So, what are the most common nutrition supplements on the market today?

A few of the most popular

Vitamin C remains one of the most common and popular nutrition supplements, and its reputation for assisting overall health and reducing the symptoms of the common cold are well-documented. Of course, that is not the only vitamin that has enjoyed an almost mythical reputation over the years – and which has had that reputation reinforced through recent research. Take, for example, vitamin A. Carrots, which contain high concentrations of the vitamin, have long been held up as a miracle food for eye health. Well, it turns out that it is true! In fact, the vitamin A in carrots is not only essential for ocular health, but plays a role in improved immunity as well. Any plan for using nutrition supplements should include vitamin A prominently.

Health for your heart, brain, and spine

Other supplements have also been found to play important roles in various aspects of health. Vitamin E has long been praised for its energy-giving powers, but new evidence demonstrates that it may be even more important for its abilities to lower the chances of heart disease in those who receive 200 or more milligrams of the vitamin each day. Folic acid is one of those common nutrition supplements that many people have never heard about. For pregnant women, however, folic acid’s ability to protect the brain and spine of unborn infants makes it one of the more important nutrition supplements they should take.

The new #1

A recent survey surprised many people by revealing that, among nutrition supplements, the most commonly used is fish oil. This omega-3 supplement has even overtaken the ever-popular multivitamins to claim the top spot on the list of most popular supplements. In the survey, ConsumerLab found that nearly three out of every four supplement users identified fish oil as their top choice. Standbys like vitamin D and various probiotics still made the list of the most common, but had lost some favor in recent polls.

In the however, which nutrition supplements are most commonly used matters for less than which ones are right for your particular needs. And that’s the beauty of these supplements. If you can identify the weak areas in your own diet, there is a supplement available to meet almost any deficiency. For most people, just one of the most common supplements usually suffices to improve health and wellness: the daily multivitamin.
