People lose weight because their bodies burn more calories than what they eat. The cells demand high amounts of calories to compensate for those you have used. Because of the higher demand they begin to use stored fats for energy; and that is what leads to weight loss. However, when the body is depleted of energy sources, it will use protein reserves which make up the muscles. If carbohydrates are not replaced, the muscles will reduce in size leading to muscle loss. When you lose weight you may think that you are losing fats but it is muscle mass.
The skin can get squishy and lose its elasticity if the bone mass is affected. Women have hormones that are designed to differentiate them from men. Testosterone is the hormone that creates this big difference; this hormone is more prominent in men than in women. Women have approximately a tenth of the amount of testosterone that is found in men. This hormone allows for men to build much bigger muscles; unlike in women where it is dormant allowing more fat cells to be formed. This is also a contributor to the soft and squishy look. Despite how much a woman works out or lift weights and consumes the same diet, they cannot reach their male counter parts because of the lack of testosterone.
When you lose weight, it is only normal and logical that you become excited that your efforts have finally paid off. However, what most people don’t know is that body composition varies from one person to another. You can lose weight but you may find that you still look squishy, dimply and soft as if you still had excess fats in your body. The weight of a body is the overall weight of each and every organ, muscle, skin, fats, bones, fluids and everything else your body is made of. When there is a change in weight due to illness, exercise or anything else, these components also change in content.
The muscles are always bigger and more plentiful than fat tissues. When you lose weight you may find that you lose fats and your body becomes leaner and toned making you look smaller but end up actually gaining weight due to muscles increase. For each gram of fat you lose you increase muscles three times. This is where the knowledge of body composition and weight loss comes in. Knowing your body composition will help you get rid of the soft squish look.
Another reason for body fats to appear soft and squishy is due to water retention in the body. What happens in the body while you are on a weight loss program is the fat cells are forced to release the fats they have stored and immediately attract water which replace the fats. This explains why when you work out some times you don’t see any progress. After sometime these cells release the water they have been carrying and you notice you have lost weight drastically. When this happens the squishy and dimply look will disappear.
