Low Fat Diet Guidelines


There are some basic low fat diet guidelines that you need to adhere to that will make the diet as safe and effective as possible. By adhering to these guidelines, you help yourself to increase the odds that you’ll stick with the diet and that it will produce results.


The following are three basic guidelines that should be adhered to in any low fat diet.


Low Fat Does Not Mean No Fat.


Unfortunately to many of us think that low fat means no fat. We all need some fat intake in order for our body to function properly. Organs such as our heart and brains primary energy source is fat and it it also vital in the absorption of certain vitamins.


So to make sure that our body is operating at it’s peak efficiency, we need to be conscious that we are not robbing it of an necessary energy source.


Stay Within Your Recommended Fat Intake Level.


Likewise, as we don’t want to consume to few fats, we also don’t want to consume to much, hence low fat. It’s important to know what your daily fat intake is. At a minimum, this should be at least 20% of your total daily calories and 30% max.


Staying between these levels should ensure that your body is getting it’s proper amount and also not to much to gain more fat along the way.


Eat Healthy Fats.


All fats are not created equal. Many of you, as you are probably already well aware, know that many fats are not good for us. The ones we want to avoid are trans and saturated fats. These have been linked with heart disease, hypertension and other aliments.


With the banning of trans fats in many municipalities in the US, this has become a little easier. However we still need to be cognizant of them in our own cooking.


The good fats that we should look for are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. They can be found in fish, nuts and oils such as olive and flax seed.


To sum it up, if you stick to these low fat diet guidelines, you’ll be well on your way to losing weight and keeping it off. And as always, knowledge is your best ally in your campaign to lose weight. Keep searching and keep learning.
