Scientists at Cornell University are working on developing a “better” broccoli, bolstering its levels of cancer-fighting compounds while also giving it a fresher (less rubbery) texture. Since super-broccoli may not hit stores for a while, stock up on these super-foods.
Cabbage: Stacked with vitamins B and C, zinc, calcium, and magnesium, cabbage also contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties. But it has a smelly reputation, too—the sulfurous scent is a result of being overcooked, so grate or slice it thinly and then sauté until just tender.
