Cheap, Gas-Station Electrolytes For Weightlifters!
I love Tsukemono, which in Japanese means “pickled things”. And I would include into that category fermented veggies, like Kimchee and sauerkraut. Everything from umeboshi to takuan to what my Granddad called “California Kimchee” (a combination of cauliflower, carrots, and onions pickled together in a mason jar). Yummy!
But don’t think I’m some sort of pickle-hipster who’s elitism about how pickles “should” be made, or “should” taste overrides my enjoyment of the simple, classic dill pickle.
Oh, no, my friend! I’m a pickle-junkie. There’s a difference. I’ll eat just about anything pickled (including pickled pigs feet – don’t judge, it just tastes like pickle).
So when I discovered these Van Holten’s Dill Pickles – tasty, giant, 99 cent pickles at the gas station – I had to try them out.
NOTE: I am a big fan of eating pickles before and during my workouts. Hydration isn’t just about water, it’s also about electrolytes, the most important of which is salt. Pickles … have a lot of salt Throw in a banana or two and you have yourself some magic.
Now go lift something heavy,
Nick Horton
