Dog Health Problems and Symptoms

There is no doubt that dogs can create a welcomed aspect of joy and companionship to our lives. There are so many homes, mine included, that the dog really is NOT considered to be just a dog. They are, in reality, active members of the family that participate in as many activities as possible. I know that when my wife and I are enjoying outside activities our great big happy, and demanding, Labradoodle wants to come outside and enjoy the day with us. To be honest, the family really feels more complete once she is out there. Not to mention the fact that she is no longer barking at me through the patio door. She is thrilled and content just to be close and involved.

It goes without saying that we would always do everything within our power to assure that no member of our family is placed in a situation that would jeopardize their health. There are times when even the best dog owners overlook situations that have the potential to create, or be a sign of, a health issue with their dogs.

Taking the extra steps to assure that our dogs stay healthy will not only keep our dogs happier. It will keep owners happier as well. This will be accomplished by saving dog owners money year after year by making far less trips to the Vet. A visit to the doctor puts a crowbar in the wallet of everyone. That includes our little four legged friends. That is why getting our dogs to the Vet at the first sign of possible illness could help prevent a situation that progresses into stages that require repeated treatments and Vet visits.

As a responsible dog parent, there are signs that we may be overlooking which could indicate a pet is not feeling well. Here are some things pet parents should look for.

Loss of appetite: When you go to fill up Rover’s food dish, notice how much is in there. Are they eating less than their usual amount of food? Loss of appetite can be a sign of some other situation. If you notice that your dog is not eating, start paying attention to see if there is anything else they are doing that is out of the ordinary.

Drinking lots of water: Drinking an excessive amount of water can be a sign of other issues. If it seems like your dog just cannot get enough water give your Vet a call and see what they think.

Strange behavior: Anything that Rover is doing that seems out of the ordinary could be an indication of some underlying issue. Sleeping all the time, regurgitation, difficulty during bowl movements, and anything else that you notice should be conveyed to your Vet. Do not take any chances. A phone call to the Vet will many times just ease your conscience.

Having difficulty getting up or lying down: If your dog is having some issues here you should call a Vet immediately. Do not take any chances with the health of your dog. This could be a sign of some sort of internal issue that needs to be addressed right away.

I wanted to publish this information to keep our dog’s health fresh in the mind. Maybe we are not noticing the things that we should. Pay attention to the way your dog behaves on a day to day basis. If you start doing this regularly it will become second nature. Then you will just start doing this automatically.
